Bringing Comfort to Kids in Need After Hurricane Helene: Creature Comfort Foundation’s Donation to Mission Health’s Child Life Program

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the impact on local communities and hospitals has been profound. Creature Comfort Foundation is dedicated to supporting children facing difficult situations, especially during times of crisis. In partnership with Slumberkins, we recently donated 100 Bigfoot Kin plushie sets to the Child Life Program at Mission Health in North Carolina, providing comfort to young patients affected by the hurricane.

These soft, soothing Bigfoot plushies aren’t just toys—they’re companions designed to help children feel safe and supported. Each plushie comes with a story that teaches resilience and emotional strength, encouraging kids to find comfort and courage even in challenging times.

“The donation of these plush companions is a small way we can offer hope and warmth to children during their stay at the hospital,” said Ava Builione, founder of Creature Comfort Foundation. “Our goal is to bring a sense of calm and joy to children who are facing hardship, whether it’s due to a natural disaster, a health challenge, or simply the stress of being in a hospital.”

The Child Life Program at Mission Health plays a vital role in helping children and their families navigate the hospital experience. Staffed by trained specialists, this program focuses on reducing stress and anxiety for young patients through therapeutic play, emotional support, and age-appropriate education. Creature Comfort Foundation is proud to support their mission by providing comforting, engaging resources like the Bigfoot plushies.

This donation is part of Creature Comfort Foundation’s ongoing mission to bring joy, comfort, and encouragement to children undergoing medical treatment in hospitals across the country. Since its founding, the organization has partnered with hospitals and child life specialists to make a positive impact on the emotional well-being of young patients and their families.
